Staten Island Cooking Classes For Kids

Tags: ,

cooking Staten Island Cooking Classes For Kids

“I mean, seriously, we are a culture that can stand in front of a microwave with a burrito in it and scream ‘FASTER!‘” — Ross Brown.

Well that quote  pretty much sum’s up our crazy and hectic lives. With this wonderful economy that we all live in challenges us daily.

The one thing that should take precedence over everything is our children. One way to spend some time with your child is through cooking and especially baking. It’s an experience that prove to be very fruitful. If you are not very good in the kitchen start with a simple recipe like chocolate chip cookies or take a cooking class with your child.

On Staten Island we have at least two of these opportunities. A new business that recently opened up is Let’s Have an Affair in Rosebank. They have the ‘Lil Chef’ Workshops for you and your child. These classes teach the basics of measurements, cooking and eating healthy. You and your child will learn how to prepare healthy and sometimes exotic foods from different cultures. The children will enjoy making fresh fruit pizza and chef salads. ‘Lil Chef’ Workshops will explain the benefits of eating healthy and why fruits and vegetables are good to eat. In addition, they will teach parents how to make fruits and veggies tasty (let’s face it, it’s still going to be an uphill battle). After each class the children will receive a recipe of that day’s class. The ‘Lil Chef’ Workshops are on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.. The classes are one hour long and started on Sept. 30, 2009. I suggest that you call to check classes availability. The classes cost from $3 to $8 and an additional $10 for a personalized chef outfit (for you kid, not you knucklehead!). The classes can be purchased six at a time and receive one FREE or pay as you go. Parents are FREE. The ‘Lil Chef’ Workshops are for children 5 to 13 years old, accompanied by a parent. ‘Lil Chef’Workshops are located at 1270 Bay Street and can be reached at 718 727 7890. Another option is a Cookie Decorating class held at Mother Mousse Bakeries.

Mother Mousse Bakery is holding a Halloween Cookie Class on October 14, 2009 at 4:30p.m. and October 17, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. In this class the kids will learn how to decorate a cookie. It’s going to be slightly messy but a lot of fun. The kids will be decorating about 18 cookies. Mother Mousse Bakery holds various Cookie Decorating classes in each month. The Cookie Decorating class is for kids 4 to 13 years old and must be accompanied with a parent. Cookie Decorating classes are about 1 1/2 long and you must register prior to the class.  This is mandatory because the classes are small and fill up quickly. The cost of the class is $35 and a parent is FREE. Classes are  held at their Travis location at 3767D Victory Blvd.  They can be reached at 719 983 8366. To learn more about Mother Mousse Bakeries read my post http://statenislandfoodandwine.com/2009/09/17/mother-mousse-dessert-specialist/.

Thanks for reading.
